1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder?

Take it to a Mits dealer and have them read the transmission data. You may just have a bad input or output speed sensor. You won't have a chance in Hell to take a trans apart and repair it. I would not even trust a regular garage mechanic to diagnose it right or work on it.
