What happened to america?

Why is it dems and republicans no longer care about America, but rather spend all their time trying to prove each other wrong. Even on here, every other question is about why the other party sucks. Why cant we try pulling our heads out of our azz and work together to fi america. Jimmy Carter had it right in his Malaise speech, as Americans we only care about ourselves now. What possesions we have, how much power we have, how much money we have. All politicians care about is looking good so they get re elected, not getting the right thing done, even at the cost of losing votes. Liberals may want to make gay marriage legal, but wont do anything about it because then they will lose votes. Other presidents took risks and did the right thing, even if it cost them their re election. Most americans dont even care, they are too busy with their iphones to worry. In congress people will kill or p a bill just because the bill was written by a rep or a dem.
