What is a good name for my main character in a book?

Don't think about the name to exactly 'fit' the character. Think of what her parents would have called her. For instance if her parents were hippies, they may have given her a name like Paisley or Moonbeam. If they were like her Aunt, uppercl lawyers, something more clic or conventional. If they were new-age types, then Raine perhaps would be a good choice, or something similar. If they were eccentric, something less common perhaps with a misspelling. You get the idea? Don't think about the name 'for' the character. That's not how it works. Like, did my parents name me according to how they thought that I would turn out? Did they give me a hippie name because they knew I would want to be a folk singer? Did they give me a clic name because they knew I would want to be a lawyer? Did they give me an uncommon name because they knew I would want to be an actress? Or did they give me a bogan name because they knew I would get pregnant at sixteen to bricklayer who also has a booming drug business? The answer to all these things is no.
